Quick Tips
Get the most out of Roostmate with these helpful tips.
Talking to Beaky
Beaky works best when you give context. Instead of asking "Is this normal?", try:
- "My 2-year-old Rhode Island Red hasn't laid in 3 days - is this normal?"
- "I noticed my hen Pepper has watery droppings today. She's been acting fine otherwise."
- "What should I look for when candling eggs on day 7?"
Tip: Be Specific
The more context you give Beaky, the more helpful and relevant the response will be. Include the bird's age, breed, and any recent changes when asking health questions.
Quick Egg Logging
Use the quick log feature on the Log tab for daily egg collection. Tap the counter to add eggs, then tap "Log" to save. You can always add more details later.
Smart Snap Best Practices
For the best analysis results:
- Take photos in good lighting
- Get close enough to see details clearly
- Include context in the frame (like the whole egg, not just a spot)
- For droppings, include something for scale if possible
Setting Up Your Flock
When adding birds, include as much information as you can:
- Name: Makes tracking and talking about them easier
- Breed: Helps Beaky give breed-specific advice
- Hatch date: Even an estimate helps with age-related guidance
- Photo: Helps you identify birds and track changes over time
